While riding my bicycle, I had to make a choice, car or curb. I chose the curb. Ended up cracking my right ankle. Looked and felt terrible. I have been in a boot for almost four weeks. The injury might fix itself without surgery if I'm lucky. This is the longest stretch of time that I have not been active or worked in my entire life. I cannot work, drive, walk without crutches, lift or ride my bike.
Now, I have to depend on others for help! Mainly my wife! She is working overtime taking care of me! Also, my best friends are stepping up to help out! I can see how easy it would be to become depressed. Felt that way many days!
However, I am looking forward to going back to work teaching tennis, getting out of my wife's hair, walking, biking and driving. During my recovery I have been reading a lot, working hard on my upper body staying strong, signed up for a college course on line and spoiling my dog.
After this, I will try not to take normal things and activities for granted. I will try to empathize more when my students get hurt! Remember, winning is great, but playing is better. Go out and enjoy your tennis and your friends. The winning or losing will take care of itself!
Good luck on the courts!
