Many players, especially those that take the larger group lessons, see the court as a "bowling alley." They want to "knock the pins down" without hitting the alleys. Sometimes a large group lesson will put four players on a court hitting hundreds and hundreds of balls straight ahead.
However, when these players actually go to a tournament, they tend to hit most balls always crossing their opponents' baseline. They seldom move their opponent off the court with their shots crossing the sidelines.
Moving your opponent to the outside of the court opens many "opportunities" for you. You can now hit behind the faster recovery opponent and hit away from the slower recovery opponent.
Of course, this scenario is exactly the same when talking about your volleys. Be more exciting. Do not just see the court in 90 degrees, see it like the pros at 180 degrees.
Good luck on the courts!
