If you want a very simple tennis strategy, try this!
First, what is a "meatball?" A meatball is a ball that you receive that is floating, soft and high. It could be a soft floating volley inside the service line or a high short overhead near the net or a shallow "bounce smash" or a shallow "bounce kill-shot." In general, it is a ball that would be easy to win with.
What is a "Vienna sausage?" It could be a very low volley or half volley or a very deep low volley or half volley or a very deep lob, (very difficult to smash). In general, a ball that is difficult to win with.
Of course, everyone loves a "meatball" and most people hate the "Vienna sausage." So, how do you win? Try to finish the point with the "meatballs" and try not to win with the "Vienna sausage."
When you receive a "Vienna sausage," just try to restart the point, do not try to win the point. You can lose by not trying to win when you receive a "meatball." Try not to give your opponents "meatballs," instead give them more "Vienna sausages."
I hope you try this simple strategy and that it works for you!
Good luck on the courts!
P.S. One of my pet peeves is while playing doubles, a player at the net refuses to cross the center line to go get a "meatball." That is one of the most fun and satisfying parts of playing doubles.
