Things To Do During Covid-19
John Mills, USPTA |
There are many things you can do for your tennis game during the Covid-19 outbreak. You might not want to be around people right now. What to do?
- Work on your serve. Take a basket of balls and small targets, (tennis ball cans), etc. Work on your form and precision.
- Take a basket of balls and do hundred "drop-feed" drills. Bounce the ball out of your hand and work on forehands and backhands. Remember, it's always better if you have targets. When you master the form on your feed, it will naturally transfer to a game situation. You are learning how to accelerate your racket head speed. So, in a real game you will be able to add pace to a slower ball.
- Find a backboard, take plenty of balls and have at it. Quite a good workout and it will really help your consistency and reduce your "unforced errors."
- Do some footwork exercises: Jump rope, do 10 side-to-side shuffle exercises, do 10 half-court wind sprints. When you go to pick up the balls, be in a hurry. Place the basket in one place and run to each ball, pick up only one ball at a time and run it back to the basket. Great workout!
- Do light weights at home. More reps, lighter weights. Go fast walking for 30 minutes.
- Check out online tennis matches or u-tube.
Think outside the box. This pandemic will come to an end. Stay safe and keep playing with social distancing in mind and wear masks when not playing if hanging around the court.
Good luck on the court!
