In doubles, it is very important to move forward. I tell my students, "Good things happen to you when you move forward." There are many times when you should move forward, here are a few of them:
- When you are poaching
- Serve and volley
- Chip and Charge
- If you are on the baseline when your partner at the net hits an offensive shot, move forward
- If you just hit a good deep lob over your opponents head and they cannot hit an overhead, but they are going back to chase it, move forward
- On a short ball (an approach shot), or on a weak short ball served to you
- If you are on the service line as your partner hits a very good offensive serve return under the approaching servers feet, move forward.
Don't forget the most important time to move forward: To shake hands with your opponents after you've won the match!
Good luck on the courts!
