Mental tip: You should remember to wait at least thirty minutes before talking about the
match you just played. Tennis is a very emotional game, much like going up
and down on a roller coaster. You will tend to be very emotional (upset) at
the conclusion of any match you just lost. During those times, players will
say things they later regret. Example: "My partner played terrible" or "My
opponent cheated," etc. After thirty minutes, your emotions will become more
settled and your reflections on the match will become more clear. If someone
(even your opponent), gives you a compliment, take it as a compliment and say,
"Thank you." Example: If your opponent says, "You are serving well," your
negative reply might be, "It's just lucky" - your positive reply should be,
"Thanks you."
To speed up play and be more courteous: Remember when receiving a 1st serve
fault to catch the ball on your racket and place it in your pocket. This
stops the ball from landing behind you where you might step on it, and stops
it from going to an adjacent court causing a let. When you return it back
crosscourt to the server, you also interrupt his/her rhythm.
