I have found that tennis ladders tend to "die off" if someone is not
actively promoting them. The only successful ladder I have run at my club
is the pyramid ladder. For activity amongst our players, we do a lot of
weekend morning scrambles for the men and women to get them out to play. We
offer gift certificates for the winners and use round robin formats with
alternate scoring methods. People tend to skirt challenges whenever they
reach a certain level and you always have the excuses of not being able to
play whenever the other person wants to play.
