[tennisbiz] Marketing professional doubles
I am working on a project that involves the
marketing/promotion of men's professional doubles on a
global scale. I would be very interested in feeback
from Tennis Server members on what can be done to make
doubles a better more marketable product on the men's
professional level. Look at it from a Tournament
Director's point of view, as well as a players, media,
manufacturers, etc... Issues: Top singles players
don't play doubles, Tournament Director's feel that
doubles does not add much value compared to the
resources it uses at a tournament. What kind of
incentives can be created to keep teams together for
an entire season? Should scoring be changed to two
sets and a tie-break for scheduling reasons? What kind
of promotions would work at an different events around
the world to draw people to watch doubles at the
tournaments around the world? Why have Tennis magazine
and other major tennis pubications around the world
quit publishing doubles results of tournaments? as
well as doing feature stories on top teams? when the
majority of people who play tennis, play doubles!
I look forward to some great feedback about the great
game of doubles.

Eugene Harper
