I've always felt the straight back swing for groundstrokes accelerated
racquet preparation, but if you can get into a better groove with a small
loop why not. The speed of todays game requires very fast racquet
preparation and the strength and power of the racquets allows for a smaller
backswing. There are always exceptions, and sometimes those exceptions turn
into a real weapon, because a player is listening to his body tell him what
is comfortable to do.
