[tennisbiz] Re: opening a group for ages 5 - 8
<x-charset Windows-1252>Tal,
It's been a while since we have seen each other in Israel. Hope all is well.
For those of you who do not know tennis and Israel, there is a large
non-profit group called the "Israel Tennis Centers" which consist of
approximately 12 locations and a total of nearly 200 courts (correct me if I
am wrong). About two years ago they had 5,000 juniors through their programs
each week.
Anyway, Tal, if you contact Ronnie Sender in Ramat Hasharon, he has a lot of
resources including the video game set called "Just For Kids" - I am sure he
will let you view it and you will get a lot of ideas for games and drills to
augment the basic instruction. I produced this two-volume video for teachers
in 1999 and it gained national recognition with AAHPERD (the primary
association of physical education teachers in the U.S.). Consider games with
children in that age group to be the most important part of the tennis
classes and you will succeed. If the children have fun, make friends, and
succeed enough to build their self-esteem, they will come back for more.
And, when they return, they will improve. It's that simple. "Big shots are
little shots who keep on shooting."
Best to all my friends in Israel,
Joe Dinoffer
