[tennisbiz] Munchkin tennis
In response to Tal Green's questions about "munchkin" or pee wee
tennis.
Our club defines that age group as between 4-7 with some 7 year
olds quite capable of moving beyond that.
Larger groups are cheaper, more accessible and more fun. You
just have to keep things simple. Get the kids close to the net to hit
balls, have them learn to balance the balls on their racquet (face up
of course), bounce the balls on their racquet, bounce them on the
ground, etc.
There are also oddly shaped balls that bounce in all crazy
directions that help develop their footwork. You bounce the ball,
they try to catch it.
There are also different types of balls that make tennis playing
easier including foam balls and the light weight Penn Star balls.
We use Penn Star balls in all of our pee wee and beginner groups.
I even use them for the adults for match play.
