Note to Bob Rosenbl-- Thanks for your reply to my question. As to your
question on end-of-season high school statewide competition, in Virginia
there is both a team and individual end-of-season tournament. Both are OK but
in my personal view, the team tournament is wonderful. But the individual
singles/doubles event is really only for the very top handful of players, who
already compete against one another in the sectional USTA age events. The
existence of the statewide individual events, however, helps bring these few
top stars into the school program, which is good for everyone in my opinion.
