[tennisbiz] Re: question about Wheelchair player vs. Non-Wheelchair player
Regarding the question about Wheelchair player vs. Non-Wheelchair player
The rules for wheelchair tennis can be found at
http://www.usta.com/rules/WheelchairRules.htm
and http://www.usta.com/rules/
The rule for Wheelchair/Able-Bodied Tennis is as follows:
V. Wheelchair/Able-Bodied Tennis
Where a wheelchair player as defined in Rule I above, is playing with or
against an able-bodied person in singles or in doubles, the Rules of
Wheelchair Tennis shall apply for the wheelchair player while the Rules of
Tennis for able-bodied tennis shall apply for the able-bodied player. In
this instance, the wheelchair player is allowed two bounces while the
able-bodied player is allowed only one bounce.
(Rule 1 discusses mobility disabilities)
Also I have forwarded this discussion to the 2 co-chairs of the USTA
wheelchair tennis committee: Randy Snow (10 US Open wheelchair singles
titles) and Dan James (US wheelchair tennis men's coach) - they may have
some additional comments/insights.
