[tennisbiz] Re: High school tennis seasons
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Ray,
In Texas, the University Interscholastic League governs all the sports in
this great state. At one point a few years ago, tennis was just a spring
sport for both the boys and girls and it was conducted as an individual
sport. Singles and doubles winners advanced from district to regional to
state. The spring competition is still in effect, but now a team
championship is now played in the Fall. A few years ago the tennis coaches
got together and approached the UIL with a proposal to have a team
competition combining both boys and girls as one team. Singles, doubles and
mixed doubles are part of this format. It is a great program and the kids
love it.
For more information, you can contact Ken McAllister at kmcallister@
texas.usta.com and he can provide more details on how the program works as
he was one of the coaches who spearheaded the effort.
