[tennisbiz] Response to "Contract Stringing"
Dan,
I assume that the cost of the string is already calculated, that is, that the
$10 you keep is for your labor (they supply the string). A local club here
asked me to do contract stringing for them. They charge $22 plus tax for
Prince or Gamma synthetic gut. They were going to give me $8 for stringing a
racquet (they supplied the string). Figuring about $4 for string, my club was
taking in $18 and giving me only $8. Your club is taking in $15 and giving
you $10. So your deal is much better. I average about $11 net per racquet
when I string on my own, so I didn't take their offer (my prices are also
lower than their's). If my club had offered me $10 I probably would have
accepted.
The clubs take a cut because they are proving a service for their
tennis-playing customers and they are making it convenient for you to get
more customers. If you are already in the racquet stringing business, you
will gain additional customers in the long run through your affiliation with
your local club. I'd take their offer.
