[tennisbiz] Re: Topspin volley
The topspin volley is typically used by a player who is so comfortable
with their topspin groundstrokes that they instinctively use the same
shot in the air. It's mainly used in the midcourt area after an
aggressive grounstroke has forced a floating return. It's like an
approach volley. Once a player is truely at the net it is seldom used.
I don't really think it needs to be taugh. I've never seen true net
players like Sampras, Rafter, Edberg or Navratilova hit a topspin
volley. Have you? Teach the classic volleys, and those players who get
more comfortable with their topspin groundstrokes will develop a
midcourt topspin volley anyway.
