A controversial opinion:
I see the swinging/topspin volley as a stroke that should
not be taught. I feel it is a shot used at the professional level
because so few of those players actually play a serve and
volley game well. The advent of the baseline "hit the ball as
hard as you can" game has taken serve and volley tennis to new lows.
The swinging volley is a way that baseline players can say
that they can volley.
