[tennisbiz] Re: Player sponsorship
I know of players in the tennis world and golf world who get sponsors to pay
2 to 4 thousand dollars apiece. The player also forms an LLC (Limited
Liability Corporation) and a contract is worked out between the sponsors and
the player as to the disbursement of funds. At first, the sponsers take most
of the winnings and then after an agreed break even point the pyramid turns
upside down with the player keeping the higher percentate. Check with local
lawyers for the details on such a contract. The players I know who have them
say it works out great for them. The investment for each sponsor is low and
it takes the pressure off the player for the year. These contacts can also
lead to individuals who are willing to invest more (up to 10k) per player if
they have the resources and like/believe in the player. It still takes the
player going out and marketing him/herself, meeting and getting to know
potential investors. There are many people who have the funds and would like
to have a "piece" of a potential professional athlete.
Good Luck
