[tennisbiz] USTA Grassroots
I live in central Arkansas and our Arkansas Tennis Asso.,
the local affiliate of the USTA is conducting a grassroots
session that includes kids and adults. To teach in these
sessions a person who enjoys tennis comes to a one day
teaching session and learns all they will need to know
about teaching tennis so that youths and adults can get
on the courts quickly and begin enjoying the game.
I suppose there are two sides to this, like anything else.
On the one hand this program does offer a new opportunity
for people of all ages to get on the courts and enjoy the
game. This program could actually inspire some people so
seek out a local pro and begin lessons, or look to join a
club to continue the fun. The USTA's motive is to get
students 'hooked' on the game and get them onto USA league
tennis teams.
It is never wrong when something inspires a person to
begin playing tennis. However, I'm wondering if the USTA
is inspiring through encroachment. The USPTA logo is
"Determining the way America plays tennis."
I'm eager to read the thoughts of our readership on this.
