[tennisbiz] Re: Thinking in singles and doubles
Hi Debby,
I am a Mental Skills Coach and the subject of "thinking" is always one for
discussion. When to think, what to think and how much to think are common
issues for players.
The question is not whether one does more thinking than the other as much as
it is what are they thinking about. When one is playing their best they are
not thinking...they are just playing and any thinking is taking place in
between points and thinking that takes place during points is natural and
unforced.
However, doubles thinking is inherently different than singles thinking
because strategies and movement are obviously different with 2 people on the
court versus 1 (or 4 versus 2 all together!).
I wouldn't even venture to discuss who thinks "more" because that's an
individual matter. Some players think far too much and some don't think
enough whether they play singles OR doubles!
