[tennisbiz] Re: Service Toss
Hi Kjell,
I wholeheartedly agree. At first, I thought Courier might have ruffled some
feathers with his clear disagreements with McEnroe on some issues (like the
cramping...where he directly confronted Mac by saying "how would you
knowl...you've never cramped like that" (or something to that effect) when
Mac was commenting on the cramping of one of the players during a match. I,
also find Courier very insightful, honest and compassionate at the same
time. He appears to care about the players and the game. I believe Mac also
cares very, very deeply about the game but...he's Mac...he'll always sound
pointed, a little gruff and strongly opinionated. That's the way he played
the game too. I agree with both of them...that the game needs personalities
who are willing to express themselves. Many complained about the
Conners/McEnroe era with its brashness but many are also missing that very
same thing in the game right now. We had some wonderful athletic as well as
personality rivalies (McEnroe, Conners, Borg, Lendl, Wilander, etc.) that led
to highly anticipated matches of physical game styles but also wonderful
blends of energy and personality too. In my humble opinion, the game could
use some more of that now.
Such are my thoughts currently on the matter! And yours?
