[tennisbiz] Low volleys high volleys for kids
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Is it best to teach kids between 4-8 yrs old high
volleys first or low volleys.
I think and have been told that there is no point in
teaching them high volleys because in match play the
first volley that they will encounter is the low one.
Therefore it is only practical to teach high ones
after approach and low volley is attainable for the
student.
I also have a personal view that low volleys have the
same point of contact as ground strokes and could help
beginners learn the open racquet needed in that
bouncing shots. In my experience children hit far too
many shots from over head height anyway, i.e hitting
down with a closed racquet face!
However the other side is that my head coach has told
me that I am mad, he thinks that low volleys is far to
difficult for young kids. this could be true but I am
not convinced it actually is.
what do you think? Answers for and against are
welcome. If you do not know could you put me in touch
with someone who would know about this!
Thanks and look forward to your reply s!
