[tennisbiz] Re: Stiff racquet frames/loose strings
You are opening a LARGE can of worms here. There are many
opinions, and even a bit of research by the US Racquet Stringers
Association (Please go to their webiste [www.racquettech.com]
or magazine for this information.)
As I currently understand it, the stiffer racquet transfers more
energy generated by the swing into the ball (as opposed to
a more flexible racquet which absorbs some and flexes more). The
looser strings (obviously looser only up to a point) lead
to more of trampoline effect - string pocketing and thusly
returning enegy back into the ball.
Realize that these effects are along a continuum. You must compare
the same racquet with different tensions, or the same
tension with different racquets. As soon as you vary both racquet
and tension, you invalidate any conclusions.
