[tennisbiz] Re: Coaching beginning adults
Hi
My Name is Hans and I am from Denmark. I have a compendium in Danish,
not yet translated into English, so i can only give you some quick
hints.
I was speaker at TTC at the Usopen this year on Teaching beginners.
To my opinion there is no difference wether they are kids or adults.
Start with coordiation drills over the net with hand and ball about 2 m
across the mittel or in the service box - use foamballs and small
courts. Then learn them topspin and to-handed backhand which is the
mirror of the forehand form the beginning just with the other hand on
the racket. In fact you let them play with the weak hand as welle as
with the strong hand, that's how it becomes the mirror. let them always
start with hand and ball before using the racket. That gives them the
idea of how much power to use, control
Draw a X on the back of the hand and when they finish the stroke the
index finger lands on the opposite shoulder with the X pointing towards
the face. This is a way they can help themselves. This is what I call
basics as to tennis. Play over the net from the start, let them feel
that they play.
I do not know if you understand what I mean. It is easier to show it to
you-
best
hans
