Depth perception may not be the problem. She may be having trouble reacting
to the bounce and getting to the proper positon to hit the ball in the best
contact zone. Several years ago there was a suggestion in Tennis magazine
that might address the problem.
Have her stand with racket in ready position. Tie a jump rope or clot tape
loosely around her body above her elbows holding them at her side. Go to
the other side of the net and toss her some balls so that she has to move
either up or back to hit them. This will focus her concentration on the
proper contact point. Be prepared (after you remove the jump rope or tape)
to remind her not to hit the ball too close to her body
