[tennisbiz] Re: Challenge Matches
Woah Alan,
Dead wood? Isn't that pretty harsh? Isn't everyone who shows up a
potential team member? If by dead wood you mean a kid who just
came to tryouts to disturb the process then by all means let him go.
However, if by dead wood you mean a kid with heart but relatively
poor skills I can't go there with you. My high school team is in a
small town in central Arkansas. I am the only person who
comprehends tennis. Kids come to the team with no tennis
experience prior to eighth grade. I begin the process of bringing
life to dead wood weeks before season begins. Then we take the
courts to play against kids who have been playing at the club since
they could walk. My number one even faced a ninth grader from Ft.
Smith who had just come back from the Bolletari camp. If it weren't
for dead wood there'd be no wood at all!
