[tennisbiz] Coaching & determining doubles teams
Edward was talking about removing subjectivity when it comes to establishing
who plays on the team - and I see how this works for singles . . . but I am
struggling with determining doubles teams right now. We have a couple guys
from junior varsity who want to challenge our 3rd varsity doubles team and
all 4 of the players are pretty close in ability, but I am not sure what
pairing would really be optimal. The JV partners may win a challenge match,
but that doesn't mean that they are the best mix.
Have thought about a rotating challenge - (each player pairs up with each of
the other players) but I am not sure how much each pair needs to play
together to establish their superiority over the other pairings. This gets
tougher as 2 players have played with each other more often and get to know
how to play as a team.
Thoughts on choosing doubles pairings and fair systems for selection would
be appreciated.
