[tennisbiz2] Re: Cues for coaching children
<x-flowed>Cosmin,
One of the cues I used in my teaching of the serve was to have my students
think of the ball as being an egg in their hand and that the toss should be
gentle and controlled just as if you were lifting the egg in the air.
As far as following through on the serve, I would just use a simple command
such as throw your racket up through the ball and to cross over their left
arm on the follow through for a right handed player.
As they advanced I would also have them concentrate on finishing across
their body and pointing the tip of the racquet to the back of the fence.
The idea is to get a long fluid follow through.
You can also go to www.littletennis.com for additional information on
teaching youngsters. This is a great site developed by the USPTA for those
doing programs for kids. It has lesson plans, games and tips galore.
