Please can anyone advise of an ecologically sound way of disposing of
used tennis balls? Can they be reconditioned?

Used tennis balls are great for beginner classes because they are easier to
control. There is also someone who buys used tennis balls. I don't know his
name off hand, but if you need help, I can look into it for you.

I also know that a lot of schools will take them (I had them buy them from
me so that I could donate the money to a non profit tennis organization).

Don't throw them away. There are many uses for them.
