tournament t-shirt questions
This is our 9th year to host a junior tournament and each year we give every
participant a t-shirt. In fact, some kids play the tournament just for the
t-shirt. However, it is becoming increasingly harder to come up with new,
creative ideas, since we change them every year. I was wondering if anybody
knew of a resource for creative tennis t-shirt designs. Also, we've never
put tournament sponsors' logos on the back like some tournaments do, but we
are considering it. Any suggestions?

As a high school coach, I would like to put my 2cents worth in for the
following :
1. Tennis Doubles: Winning Strategies for all levels by Greg Lappin
ISBN#: 0-930425-00-6
This is the only book I have found that shows a young student
/player what areas of the court to cover when you hit a shot. It
has terrific graphics for those who might not be auditory learners.
2. Intelligent Tennis by Skip Singleton ISBN#: 1-55870-102-8 Great
reading. I though he also hade a book on Intelligent doubles but I
could be mistaken.
3. High Tech Tennis by Jack Groppel, Phd ISBN#: 0-88011-458-4 Good
reading on some of the strokes of today and just a few years
ago.
For general reading about tennis and not so much about instruction try
the following:
1. Who Cares? A Wake-up Call for Service and Leadership by Peter
Burwash ISBN#: 1-883743-00-1 This had some great
ideas and concepts concerning loyalty that our young people need
to hear.
2. The Tennis Lover's Book of Wisdom ISBN#: 1-887655-36-0 Nice
thought for a busy day.
3. Match Pointers by Dan Magill ISBN#: 1-56352-194-6
4. The Game by Jack Kramer with Frank Deford ISBN#: 0-399-12336-9
copyright 1979
5. Authur Ashe on Tennis by Authur Ashe with Alexander McNab ISBN#:
0-679-43797-5

How about using a frame and installing just a scrap of each string you
carry as one main string. You could even use a wood racket that you
pick up from a garage sale or second hand sports shop. You would have
space to label each depending on the racket and show price etc if
needed. We used this idea in a shop I worked in while finishing college
and working as an assistant pro.

Regarding your logo questions, I used a web site on the Internet to
design my logo. The address for this company is www.1800mylogo.com They
are a Canadian company, and the process was outstanding. You submit
information about your club, clientele, favorite colors, what you would
like to have in the design, etc. They then give you several choices to
review, refine, re-submit, etc. The end result is a logo that you will
be very happy with, for about $300. This price included business card
formatting, and letterheads for stationery as well! Logo designers who
do this for a living, not Internet savvy, charge up to $10,000! People
have been astounded at the quality of my logo. If interested, go to
www.tenniskingdom.com for a view of a less than $300 logo!
