I don't have the reference, but when I first started stringing my own
racquets I read the tension from the wrong side of the counterweight and
ended up stringing the raquet 20lbs below the recommended tension. Of
course, I didn't know this at the time! During warmups at the net the next
time I played I noticed my volleys had tons of punch! However, when I began
hitting groundstrokes all over the place it was EASY to figure out what I
had done. If you want to have fun, string an old racquet 20 lbs under the
recommended tension and let your student play a practice match with it--
she'll figure it out!
