DTL better allows the attacker to reach net position slightly to the side of
centerline that the opponent's reply shot will be coming from.
A player might argue that one should direct the approach shot to opponent's
weaker side, or perhaps that one should mix things up. Note that the
cross-court approach, if intercepted early by opponent, leaves one's own open
side undefended. Perhaps the best advice is, on critical points, to do
whatever seems to be working best during the match.
