[tennisbiz] Re: Teaching students
Replying to Mike Rush's comment about a conflict between a CTA and the role
of a USPTA pro (or even a commercial or private tennis club):
We are in the beginning stages (second year) of establishing a CTA in Ann
Arbor, Michigan. Besides the general goal of promoting tennis, we have tried
to steer the CTA projects toward activities which are not limited to one
specific club or are not done by a club. Examples include: a schools
program; a minority program; a summer league for high school players
conducted at various high school sites; support for a National tournament run
at a public, university facility; and running and supporting the local summer
city championships. None of these items are done by indiviudal clubs, and
most are items that draw either non club members or draw players from all
area clubs. If all you are doing with your CTA is duplicating existing
programs you are both wasting a lot of good volunteer energy and not taking
advantage of a way of garowing tennis for the entire community.
