[tennisbiz] Re: Grip Advice
Mauricio,
I would suggest finding out the players goals. What level of tennis do they
aspire to? Are they currently competing? Do they want to be able to hit
multiple types of serves such as flat, slice or topspin?
I will assume two things at this point. First, they are taking a lot of
lessons so they must want to be skilled at tennis and serving. Second, they
want success or in your words "want to see quick results." There are two
ways to proceed.
1) If they are competing and want to see there serve slowly change so as not
to lose their serving skill while making a change. Then have your student
slowly move the grip towards a proper position in very small increments each
day over a period of two weeks.
2) If they know they need to change and want to see results. Put them in
the proper grip and have them stand about 2 meters from the net on the proper
serving side. Their first goal is to hit the ball over the net. Second goal
is to hit serve into correct service box. Third goal is to start moving
backward one step at a time until they reach the baseline. Make sure they
keep having success at hitting the serve in the box before on to the next
goal.
