[tennisbiz] The Swing Volley
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Joe Dinoffer was spot on with his list of advantages
re the swing volley being taught to beginners.
There is also one more advantage that I have found in
teaching the swing volley early to beginners. The
swing volley teaches the child to firm the grip on
contact. The ball tends to come to the childs racquet
a little "heavier" than when there is a bounce before
contact.
I have taught swing volleys to a 7 year old girl
recently and it has also given her more confidence to
rally with me from the baseline "like the adults".
Despite all the benefits of mini-tennis for children
there are still some very confident, high achievers
who come along and want to hit from the baseline as
soon as possible. The swing volley from inside the
service line as a great way to teach several important
elements without saying a word!
