I've been coaching in South Africa for about 8 years - all ages and
abilities. I personally like the loop backswing and even with my beginners
I make sure they understand that the backswing is a loop. However, I start
my beginners with shoulders and racquet already turned away from the net and
stress that the racquet is waiting at the bottom of the loop in order to
swing low to high to generate topspin.
