[tennisbiz] Re: Footwork Drills
Good morning from Dallas, Texas:
Several U.S. Division I College Coaches have told me that they use footwork
ladders (PowerLadder) regularly with their players. They have found an
interesting correlation between playing ability and footwork skills in
moving through a footwork ladder.
In practically every instance, the number one, number two, etc. players had
the best and then second best footwork on the PowerLadder on the team. And,
regarding hand quickness the same correlation was present using the Z-Ball
for agility and hand coordination drills.
And, in case you're wondering, those players who worked more with the
PowerLadder and the Z-Ball actually improved their tennis automatically!
(Note: Of course, I am not saying to neglect their actual tennis skills, but
rather to add some additional footwork drills with the PowerLadder.
Final point, make all footwork drilling as tennis-specific as possible:
short bursts rather than long movement drills - seldom extend an exercise
more than 30 seconds, with 15-20 seconds being more ideal.
For more information or to see the ladder, videos on using it extensively,
etc. go to our website www.oncourtoffcourt.com or contact our offices in
Dallas.
Best regards,
Joe
