[tennisbiz] Re: Two hands on racquet for return of serve
As a serious student of the game who has graduated to the level of club
hacker, I think this multi-grip approach is unnecessarily complicated. What
happened to the one-size-fits-most-situations continental grip? You can
serve, volley, return, hit overheads, and deliver ground strokes from both
sides with it. And, when there is sufficient time, one can move to a
backhand or forehand grip as the situation dictates.
The continental grip seems ideal for an all-court player. It served John
McEnroe well throughout his career. Still does.
Three grips? How does a student manage concentrate on the ball? Is it any
surprise that, with these extreme grips, even professional players are
reluctant to approach the net?
I'd be interested in hearing from teaching professionals. Am I missing
something?
