[tennisbiz] Re: Used Tennis Balls
Hi Joe,
I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but I completely
disagree with the point of view that tennis balls too worn out to be
used in teaching are somehow good enough for recreational play ... "good
enough for unofficial play on public courts." I think it's exactly the
opposite: Worn-out tennis balls are ok for teaching sessions but you
wouldn't want to use worn balls any other time --- on public or private
courts. And by the way, some of the best tennis played around these
parts is "unofficial play on public courts." In Hartford CT, where I
live, many of our better players developed their games on public courts,
where tennis is taken very seriously, and now play on college teams (on
scholarships). Not bad for poor kids in a poor city, but they didn't
get there using worn-out tennis balls.
Thanks. I feel better now.
