[tennisbiz] Re: stiff racket frames/loose strings
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Having as a reference the excellent book "Tennis Science for Tennis Players"
by Howard Brody, we can say that:
1.The most important reason for energy loss when the ball hits the strings
is the deformation of the ball. Loose strings allow less deformation , with
less energy dissipation, and the ball is returned with higher energy. Of
course there is a limit, when the strings start to rub against each other at
the moment of impact.
2. A stiff racket gives more power, because there is less energy loss in its
flexing. However a flexible racquet is certainly kinder to the arm.
