[tennisbiz] Coaching High School Tennis Teams
<x-charset iso-8859-1>Edward,
I agree with your comments regarding young people
enjoying our sport more if they were worked harder and
made to follow a code of conduct as per behaviour.
I was part of a squad of players put together in
Madras (now called Chennai) India several years ago.
It was made up entirely of boys who were not always
the top players in the country, sometimes far from it.
Those boys worked extremely hard 6 days a week and
were under strict codes of conduct. Although at the
time they all found the work rate very hard, almost
every month I get a call from one of those "boys" just
to stay in touch. They are all in great jobs, 3 of
them working on Wall Street.
Perhaps the best comment I ever got from an old
student was "Sir, those years in the team changed my
life. It made me feel I could do anything, it gave me
the confidence to be where I am now".
I'm sure you are right when you say that those
children you observed at the High School crave to be
part of a structured program that promotes hard work
and correct behaviour. Don't lower your standards
Edward.
Paul Dale.
