[tennisbiz] Re: Stopping student from leaning in too early on serve
The serve is a very natural motion, and I have used a technique for years
that has been effective in illustrating a smooth, balanced, upright service
motion. I take a collection of old unusable tennis racquets, have my student stand
at the service line, and beginning with the racquet in the "backscratch"
position start throwing each one across the net at the intended target. Baseball
players really take to this method. It has cured both leaners and
sidewinders!
When a student has a tossing problem, I shift their attention to the basics
of body positioning. "It's just like throwing a ball." Most important - I
keep it simple. It works! Good luck.
