Alan,

    In Hobbs, NM we have a High School challenge ladder that is played out
four days of the week. Boys will challenge two days as will the girls. At
the start of the year, based on their previous position on the ladder from
the previous year thats where the player starts out. For example, if a
player finished at the number six position and say that we had three
graduate, that player will move up to the number three position and on the
first challenge they will play the number four player to start the year. Our
challenge ladder starts in October and last til our first district match and
then freezes for the rest of the year.
    I hope this will help. We have had good success running the challenge
ladder this way for many years.
