[tennisbiz] Re: Challenge Matches
Hi Guys,
This year I have the honor and privilege of helping out with the local high
school team. We have a unique situation where 4 of our players could
legitimately challenge for the number one position. I think I have the coach
convinced
that we should have a mini tournament one day a week, 1 vs 3, 2 vs 4. The
two winners play for the number 1 and 2 positions and the two losers play for
the 3 and 4 position. These kids are that close. I think I have the players
convinced they should all strive to be the number 1 player on the team. That by
competing and improving they are also helping their team mates get better. I
can actually envision all of them playing at the number 1 position at some
point during the year. I guess my question is do you think this is too much
pressure on them? All I know is I get to practice an hour early and the kids are
jumping out of the cars wanting to hit and work on some things and I stay an
hour late and those that can, stay late and continue to work on their game not
just with me but hitting with each other. It is a lot of fun.
I also mentioned to the coach about having an evaluation sheet that each
player fill out and turn it in the next day after a match. Some of the questions
I would like to have on it are: What were my opponents strengths? What were
my opponents weaknesses? Just why did I win or lose? What could I or should I
have done differently? What is the weakest part of my game that I really
need to work on? Did I give 100% and play with honor? Did I focus well and not
pay too much attention to the spectators? Was I gracious in victory or
defeat? Would welcome any suggestions. Am I expecting too much out of the high
school kids?
Best regards,
