[tennisbiz] Re: A question on Liability Insurance
Chris,
Your liability insurance through PTR covers injuries you might inflict upon
others. The Certificate holder would be you, but you should have the tennis
club/center listed as an additional insured so they will be covered under the
policy as well. That will cost you additional dollars, I think $50-$100, check
with PTR on the cost. If you injure someone, and they sue, they would also
sue the facility and it's board members, etc ... they should be protected as
well.
If you are dealing with a community assn., I would suggest you acquire
insurance through the USTA Liability program as well, it's pretty reasonable and
will cover the facility too.
As for workers comp, that depends upon whether you are an employee or not.
If you are on a salary/commission basis, the facility will be responsible for
the payment of L&I (workers comp) as well as half of your social security and
medicare payments. If you are considered self employed (independant
contractor), those taxes will be your responsibility. In most states, the business
owner is not covered by L&I, only the owners employees. You'll need to check with
your local state's Department of Labor to find out about that.
In any case, the PTR liability insurance policy would have nothing to do with
YOUR personal injury while on the job, liability insurance only covers
injuries to others by you or anyone listed as additional insureds.
Hope this helps,
Pat
