[tennisbiz2] Re: Sore ankles
Hey John,
As you probably already know, bursitis is caused by the inflammation of
a small structure (bursa) within a joint that helps with the
lubrication of that joint. Though it's more commonly found in the
larger joints such as shoulders, knees, etc, it is found in the smaller
joints as well. Once the Bursa is irritated and inflamed, it can hinder
the lubrication process of the joint, so I believe your priority should
be to reduce the inflammation as much as possible. Below are a few
supplements you may want to try. If you're not eating a lot of fish,
you may want to add a serving or 2 to your diet per day. It's a natural
anti-inflammatory.
Over the counter medicine:
Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen <-- Definately check with your doc
before taking any of these medicinesAcetaminophen
Supplements:
Glucosamine Chondritin 500 mg 2-3 times per day: This is for connective
tissue support and it has helped joint pain in some of my clients and
athletes. It usually takes 3-4 weeks before it kicks in, so if you opt
for this one, make sure you take it on a consistent basis.
Omega-3 Oils: 1,000 mg 2-3 times per day. Flaxseed oil is great to
naturally reduce inflammation. Omega-3's are also found in cold water
fish
And make certain you're getting plenty of water as it'll help in the
lubrication process within your joints. I'm not sure how much your
drinking now, but it'd probably be safe to increase it by at least 25%
and if you're routinely pounding out 5 hour sessions on the court,
increase it even more. When you're fully hydrated, your body will use
the water to help lubricate the joint -- plus it'll improve your focus
on the court -- that's a true win-win.
Hope that helped.
