Several interesting questions. I am commenting concisely and in order of
your questions. Just my opinion.
1. Shadow swinging. Absolutely. No studies I have known. Check this link
out. In golf, however, thousands of these are sold a year. In tennis, we
only sell a handful. I am a believer in shadow swinging, but be careful that
it is not so much that any hint of boredom can set in.

2. I only know the term "loop swing".
3. Not sure about a specific one on this although there are many mental
training and visualization CDs out there (not DVDs).
4. Definitely make contact out in front on the forehand side with that grip.
